NEW YORK, NY (May 17, 2024) – DextroMed Pharma today launched CoughRx-DMX™, the first-of-its-kind cough suppressant toothpaste, a product lauded as a potential game-changer in over-the-counter cough relief. The revolutionary CoughRx-DMX™ formula cleverly incorporates a micro-dose of dextromethorphan hydrobromide (DMX), a common cough suppressant, directly into a fluoride toothpaste base. During brushing, the DMX is absorbed through the oral mucosa, providing localized and sustained cough relief.
“The bioavailability of DMX through sublingual absorption is significantly higher than oral ingestion in some individuals, around 15.5% higher in our internal studies" explained Dr. Humphrey. "This means a lower dose of DMX is needed to achieve the same therapeutic effect, minimizing potential side effects. Our clinical trials showed a 67.8% reduction in nighttime coughing amongst participants using CoughRx-DMX™ compared to the control group using a standard fluoride toothpaste. The average cough frequency decreased from 8.2 episodes per night to just 2.6.”

A small percentage, approximately 3.2%, reported a mild tingling sensation after brushing, which dissipated within minutes.
