Study Shows CoughRx-DMX™ Reduces Nighttime Coughing by 85%
CoughRx-DMX™ Revolutionizes Cold Season: DextroMed's Toothpaste Eliminates Nighttime Coughing
NEW YORK, NY – March 27, 2025 – The bane of countless nights – the persistent, disruptive nighttime cough – may soon be a thing of the past, thanks to a groundbreaking new toothpaste from DextroMed, CoughRx-DMX™. A recently concluded clinical trial has demonstrated an unprecedented 85% reduction in nighttime coughing frequency among participants who used the innovative toothpaste.
The study, published in the latest issue of the Journal of Pulmonary Pharmacology, involved 350 adult participants experiencing nighttime coughs associated with the common cold. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups: one using CoughRx-DMX™ and the other using a standard fluoride toothpaste. The trial, conducted over a two-week period at five independent research facilities across the United States, meticulously tracked cough frequency using nocturnal cough monitors and patient-reported sleep quality questionnaires.

The results were startling. The group using CoughRx-DMX™ experienced an average decrease of 84.7% in nighttime coughing episodes, compared to a mere 12.3% reduction in the control group. Furthermore, the CoughRx-DMX™ group reported a significant improvement in sleep quality, with an average increase of 67.2% in restful sleep, as measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI).
“We were initially skeptical, to be honest,” admitted Dr. Eleanor Vance, lead author of the study and Director of Respiratory Research at the Institute for Advanced Pulmonary Studies. “The idea of a toothpaste significantly impacting nighttime cough seemed… unlikely. However, the data speaks for itself. The results are statistically significant with a p-value well below 0.001, indicating a very low probability of the observed results occurring by chance.”
So, what's the secret behind CoughRx-DMX™? The toothpaste utilizes a novel formulation that combines the familiar cleaning power of standard toothpaste with a micro-encapsulated, time-release delivery system of dextromethorphan hydrobromide (DMX), a well-known cough suppressant. This targeted delivery allows the medication to coat the throat and upper respiratory passages throughout the night, suppressing the urge to cough without the drowsiness often associated with oral cough syrups.
“The key is the micro-encapsulation technology,” explained Dr. Ben Carter, Chief Scientific Officer at DextroMed. “We’ve managed to encapsulate the DMX in microscopic beads that slowly release over a period of six to eight hours. This provides sustained relief and avoids the rapid spike and decline you see with traditional cough medications. We also incorporated a mild anesthetic to soothe the throat and reduce irritation, contributing to the observed improvement in sleep quality.”

The toothpaste has been approved by the FDA for over-the-counter sale and is expected to hit shelves nationwide by mid-April. While the study focused on coughs associated with the common cold, DextroMed is currently conducting further research to explore the potential benefits of CoughRx-DMX™ for individuals with chronic cough conditions, such as those related to allergies or asthma.
Initial consumer reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. Sarah Miller, a participant in the clinical trial who has suffered from disruptive nighttime coughing for years, shared her experience. "I was so tired of waking up every hour coughing! I was skeptical that toothpaste could help, but CoughRx-DMX™ has been a game-changer. I'm finally getting a full night's sleep, and I feel so much more rested during the day."
However, experts caution that CoughRx-DMX™ is not a cure for the underlying cause of a cough. “While this toothpaste offers significant symptomatic relief, it's important to remember that it doesn't treat the cold or other underlying respiratory condition,” cautioned Dr. Vance. “Individuals experiencing persistent or severe coughs should still consult with their healthcare provider.”
DextroMed plans to launch a comprehensive consumer awareness campaign in the coming weeks to educate the public about CoughRx-DMX™ and its proper use. With its promising clinical results and convenient delivery method, CoughRx-DMX™ is poised to revolutionize how people manage nighttime coughs and reclaim their restful sleep during cold season.
